The inside of the lid is inscribed with several inked letters. The inscription is likely a name or multiple names, but it is largely illegible.

One set consists of large, cube-shaped blocks painted with letters and numbers on all sides except one, which is press carved. Another set consists of half-cube-shaped blocks of the same size, with half-letters on the sides that match together on the halved sides. The smaller blocks are similarly decorated.

Backgammon Set

Hinged gameboard that folds down the center, creating a space in between the sides for storing game pieces. One side of the board is checkered, and the other is laid out for backgammon. There are two leather cylinders for throwing dice and one round black game piece.

Backgammon Set

Backgammon set. The set is contained within a box that opens to reveal a backgammon board on the inside and a checkerboard on the outside. The edges of the box are decorated to disguise is as two side-by-side books, with three edges looking like pages and one edge looking like the two spines. The box is entirely covered in leather, inside an out, and all decoration is tooled and painted on the leather. The spine of one "book" is labeled "HIST. OF ENGLAND". The leather has been completely removed from the other spine. The hinge of the box is on the side opposite the spines.

In addition to the box, the set contains 15 black and 15 red or brown game pieces, 4 dice, and 2 die throwers. The pieces are round and turned with circular rings, creating a bull's eye effect. The dice are 6 sided and made of bone. They are marked on the 6 side with a crown above the initials "GR" in red. The die throwers are narrow, cylindrical tubes made of leather.

Blue canvas zip bag for ski waxes and tools. Bag has red trim and a fake fur skier silhouette on one side and fake fur swatches on each end of the bag where the zipper begins and stops. Inside is stiff, waterproof material that is chipping. Exterior of bag is stained and worn.

In 1940 Harry Loyzell, of Fryeburg, Maine, traveled to North Conway, New Hampshire, where Babe Ruth was playing golf. Loyzell's uncle had previously acquired this ball from Fenway Park during a Red Sox game, and Loyzell asked Ruth to sign in. Loyzell went on to become the athletic director at Rutland High School.

Leather baseball with a pasted-on paper label that reads, "July 14th 1867 score 75-52 / [illeg] Champlain vs [illeg] BBC". The outermost layer of the ball is formed from three wedge-shaped pieces of dark leather stitched together with a whipstitch. A split in one of the seams reveals undyed canvas and red and blue yarn on the interior.

Grey wool baseball uniform consisting of a shirt and breeches. The shirt has short sleeves and secures up the front with 5 buttons. There is a wide center placket that extends around the neckline. The word "Rabbits" in cursive is cut from black wool felt and machine appliqued on the left breast, stretching from the center placket under the left sleeve. The words "AMERICAN HOUSE 2" are cut from black wool felt and machine appliqued on the back of the shirt. The pants end below the wearer's knee and are gathered around elastic bands. There is a 9-inch fly that secures with 6 white buttons.

This is part of the Rossi family collection. Based on the penned name inside the shorts, this uniform belonged to Claude Rossi, brother of Lawrence K. Rossi (1918-2015) Claude (1921-1945) was involved in many sports in high school and in intramural basketball -- which is likely what this uniform was from since the colors are not those of Spaulding High School.

Beads

Green cardboard box filled with painted wooden beads. The box has a rectangular cutout on the top lined with cellophane, showing the contents. The top of the box is printed with the words, "PLAY TIME STRINGING BEADS", and the sides are printed with the words, "HOURS OF AMUSEMENT" and "FAST, NON-POISONOUS COLORS". The turned wooden beads are round with a hole in the center. They are painted pink, blue, green, and yellow.

Board game and box. The box lid is printed with an illustration of a fire wagon being pulled by three white horses with the inscription, "FIRE FIGHTERS" in sky above it. The directions for play are printed at the bottom of the illustration. The game board is printed on a sticker and adhered to the inside of the box. It consists of an illustration of four ladders leaning against a multicolored building and terminating at an open window. A woman in a nightgown is standing at the window, and flames are behind her. The playing pieces are small wooden disks stained red, blue, yellow, and green. There is a rectangular counter with a rotating dial than can indicate the numbers 1-4 and the instructions, "Spin the hand by a quick stroke of the finger."

Both the board and the box have a black-and-white illustration of the Bennington monument. Boxed board game, "Broadcast Baseball". The set consists of the box, box lid, game board, 2 used score sheets, 1 unused score card, small box of 34 metal pins, 4 red pegs, 4 blue pegs, 11 blue cardboard team tags, 44 blue cardboard score tags, 1 blank blue piece of paper.

Directions for play are printed on the interior of the box lid. Conventional play follows the rules of baseball, but the players spin a dial and match the result to the numbered game outcome printed in the box lid. There are also alternative instructions for using the board to reenact live games via radio broadcast.

Board Game

Long, rectangular board came contained within a box. The lid is printed with a scene of children (two girls and two boys) in Victorian clothing fishing from a grassy hill. The title, 'THE IMPROVED GAME OF / FISH POND." is printed on either side of the group. Inside, the game board fits snugly into the box and is printed with an artistic rendering of the surface of a lake or pond with water lilies. There are 22 slits spaced evenly across the board in 3 rows. There are also several die-cut fish (11 remaining). While the fish are very similar in appearance, they are printed on one side with a small species name (bass, haddock, tarpon, shad, carp, salmon, blackfish, mackerel) and on the other side with a number within a circle. There are round holes where the eyes would be. The inside of the lid is printed with gameplay instructions.

The board is printed in imitation of a commercial Monopoly board, with each tile showing the logo and contact information of a local business or franchise.

Wooden cribbage board. The front of the board has four rows of 30 holes around the outside with two additional holes in the center of each short end. There are five holes along the center of the board, each on an etched line.

The back of the board is pasted with a piece of paper bearing the handwritten inscription, "This Cribbage Board was made from a fence rail, pierced with musket balls during the battle of Antietam, September Seventeenth 1862. The rail was taken from a fence in in front of the 2nd division of the 6th corps and the board was cut out and made by a private soldier in Batt's Brigade."

Cribbage Board

Rectangular wooden cribbage board. The board is formed from 5 strips of wood, alternating slightly in tone between dark and light (3 dark, 2 light). The 2 light strips are each drilled with 2 rows of 30 holes followed by a single row of 2 holes. The center strip is drilled with a single line of 5 holes on one end and 7 holes on the other end. The reverse has a U-shaped compartment carved into the center strip at one end that closes by inserting a metal plate. Inside, there are several red and unpainted game markers. The words, "JOHN'S TINKER SHOP MARSHFIELD, VERMOTN 05658", are burned into the wood above the compartment. Below the compartment is a round, white sticker with the written inscription, "$11.00".

Cribbage Board

Rectangular wooden cribbage board hinged at the center. When closed, the board forms a box with the cribbage board on the outside. The board consists of 12 light-colored rectangles of inlaid wood, each drilled with 2 rows of 10 holes. In the center of the board, between the 2 rows of inlay, is an oval formed from 30 drilled holes. The inside of the box, or back of the board, islined with paper printed in red and black with the symbols of standard playing card suites (heart, diamond, club, spade) in a repeating tiled pattern. There is a pointed wooden divider at one end. When closed, the box secures with a metal hook.

The wooden arm pieces extend to just under the elbow. The doll is wearing a black silk dress with a surplice bodice held in pleats. The sleeves reach to just below the elbows, and there is a white gauze neckerchief, or fichu. The fabric of the long skirt is split throughout, showing the white petticoat beneath.

Joe, and his wife Molly, were St. Francis Abenaki people whose figures became central to Vermont culture after Joe's actions during the Revolutionary War were publicized and, later, romanticized. The pattern for these dolls was widely printed and sold throughout Vermont as tourist souvenirs. These particular dolls were constructed by Katherine Dopp from a kit she purchased at a gift store at Joe's Pond in the 1950s.

Doll with a wooden head and soft body, arms and legs. The head has attached wool hair and remnants of plaster. (The plastered face is now separated from the head.) There is a string of glass beads attached to the head. The doll is wearing a silk satin dress lined in fine linen with a lace chemisette. The dress has a high waistline, a gathered bodice, and elbow-length sleeves. The neckline of the dress is edged with gold braid. The skirt of the dress is shredded. The doll's arms are made of linen doubled over and rolled into a tube. Any former plaster forearms and hands are no longer present.

The doll is wearing 18th-century-style clothing consisting of a red gown, grey petticoat, blue-and-white striped apron, red stockings, brown shoes, white shift, red-and-black neckerchief, and white cap. She is holding an ax in both hands. The doll stands via an internal wire armature, which protrudes from the back of each food, acting as a balance for the doll to stand upright.

There is a tag sewn onto the doll's lower back that reads, "ANN STORY: VERMONT 1777 #54/151 By Mirren Barrie, NIADA, 1983". There is a pouch sewn into the back of the doll's shift with a small paper booklet with the hand-drawn title, "Handmade", on the cover. The book folds out into a single sheet a paper with Barrie's explanation of the doll's clothing.

Ann Story lived with her five children in a cabin in Salisbury in the early years of English settlement in Vermont. She was a spy and courier for Vermont's militia, the Green Mountain Boys, during the American Revolution and did much to aid their cause.

The eyes close when the doll is laid prone, and open when upright, and the facial features--including eyelashes--are painted on. The hair is black and has fallen out of the original style. The dress has several tiered layers in the skirt and a Watteau train at the back. A string of crystals is around the waist, and the doll is wearing two strands of pearls around its neck. There is a stamped metal filigree fan attached to the proper right side of the doll with large red, yellow, and white feathers attached to it. The feet are molded into white shoes with a low heel.

Beneath the dress, the doll is wearing two petticoats and pantalets in white gauze, and brown leather shoes with tied fronts. The legs are made of unpainted wood. The doll is accompanied by a white cotton muslin cloak decorated with whitework embroidery and crocheted trim.

The legs are painted with blue stripe to indicate socks, and the feet are painted with black shoes. The soft body is stuffed with sawdust. Large doll made from black knitted silk stockings. The doll has short, curly hair made from wool decorated with a yellow silk ribbon at the center top of the head. The face consists of two mother-of-pearl buttons for eyes, a stitched and shaped nose, and an embroidered mouth (pink lips and white teeth). There is a yellow medallion embroidered at the center of the doll's chest. The wrists are shaped through yellow stem stitch embroidery, and the lower legs are decorated with horizontal couched yellow lines. The feet are made from leather with blanket stitched seams, decorated with orange silk ribbons. The doll is wearing an apron-style dress made from brown, yellow, and white striped cotton.

Fabric-bodied "mama" doll with composition head and arms. The rosy-cheeked baby doll has a slightly open mouth showing two small front teeth, and blue eyes that open when upright and close when laid down. The head is significantly damaged, with the outermost layer of decoration peeling back to reveals the composite material beneath. The finish on the arms is also cracking. The body is weight at the bottom so the doll can sit upright, and there is a speaker (no longer working) in the lower back, evidenced through discoloration of the fabric. The legs are stuffed fabric of a finer weave and darker color than the body. The bottom center of the body has the penned inscription, "1927 Flood Montpelier Dept store".

In total, she is a wearing the dress, the bonnet, the shawl, a white petticoat with tatted trim, a white petticoat with a ruffle, and bloomers with tatted trim.

Owned by Helen Crane in Grafton, Vermont. Many years later, her granddaughter, Alice Swingle, had fabric from Helen's wedding dress (1864) made into a dress for the doll.
